State-Specific Licencing Requirements*

Here is a summary of licencing requirements in various Australian states :

New South Wales (NSW) – Required for carpentry work over $5,000. Must complete Certificate III in Carpentry (CPC30220) + industry experience. (NSW Fair Trading)

Victoria (VIC) – Carpentry work requires Domestic Builder (Limited) Registration. Qualifications and experience vary. (Victorian Building Authority – VBA)

Queensland (QLD) – Licence required for carpentry work over $3,300. Must complete Certificate III in Carpentry + meet experience requirements. (Queensland Building and Construction Commission – QBCC)

South Australia (SA) – Carpentry contractors must be registered and meet qualification & experience criteria. (Consumer and Business Services – CBS)

Western Australia (WA) – No direct carpentry licence, but builders must register for large projects. (Building and Energy WA)

Tasmania (TAS) – Must register as a Builder Practitioner if working on structural carpentry projects. (Consumer, Building and Occupational Services – CBOS)

Australian Capital Territory (ACT) – Requires Certificate III in Carpentry + industry experience. Some cases require a technical assessment. (ACT Planning and Land Authority)

Northern Territory (NT) – Registration is required for self-employed carpenters. Must show qualifications & experience. (NT Building Practitioners Board)
